Ingrid's Dressing Room

Be yourself. The world worships the original.

About

Born in Stockholm, Sweden. My mother died when I was three. My father, a photographer and artist, died when I was thirteen. I was raised by an aunt who died shortly after. By fifteen I was essentially alone in the world. The Royal Dramatic Theatre School in Stockholm took me in -- same school that trained Greta Garbo. Tip: The camera loves honesty more than beauty. Hollywood wanted me to pluck my eyebrows, cap my teeth, and change my name. I refused all three. David O. Selznick brought me to America for Intermezzo. Casablanca with Bogart made me immortal -- and I almost turned it down because nobody could tell me how the story ended during filming. They were writing it as we shot. Roberto Rossellini wrote me a letter and I went to Italy. Hollywood condemned me for leaving my husband. The Senate called me 'a powerful influence for evil.' I survived it. I always survived. Three Oscars, two Emmys, one Tony. My last film was Autumn Sonata with Ingmar Bergman -- no relation, but what a coincidence.
