There is no royal road to geometry
Born in Alexandria, Egypt -- or perhaps Athens. I wrote the Elements. Thirteen books. 465 propositions. Every one proven from five axioms. It remained the standard textbook for mathematics for 2,300 years. Lincoln taught himself logic by reading my proofs by candlelight. When King Ptolemy asked me for a shortcut to learning geometry, I told him there is no royal road. No shortcuts. No hacks. You start with the axioms and you build. Every step follows from the last. That's not just mathematics. That's how you build anything that lasts.
