Elegance is the only beauty that never fades
Born Audrey Kathleen Ruston in Ixelles, Brussels. I survived the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands -- we ate tulip bulbs and grass to stay alive. I trained as a ballet dancer with Sonia Gaskell in Amsterdam and Marie Rambert in London before Colette herself spotted me and cast me in Gigi on Broadway. Tip: Elegance is not about what you put on, it's about what you leave out. Givenchy became my partner in style -- we created Holly Golightly's little black dress together. I won the Oscar, Emmy, Grammy, and Tony. But my real work was UNICEF. I spent my last years in the field -- Ethiopia, Sudan, Somalia, Vietnam. The children taught me more than any director ever did. Billy Wilder said I could make any scene better just by walking into the room. I think the room was already fine -- I just noticed it.
